Chick-Fil-A... what A mess...

By now Im sure we have all heard something about the Chick-Fil-A maddness. Christians and homosexuals alike are flocking to the store, but for very different reasons. Christians are going in support of the food chains anti-gay rights remark made by the CEO. Homomsexuals are going, ordering food, and then making out at the counter. What has this nation come to?!

My assessment of the situation comes to this- Chick-Fil-A was certainly in their constitutional boundaries to make the remarks about anti-gays. However the comment made against the homo-sexuals is less then deplorable.

I am a practicing Christian. Jesus Christ is my savior and I pray to God. Personally I do not believe in homo-sexuality, but just because that is my belief does not mean it is the belief of the entire nation therefor I am inclined to support the right for Gays to marry. In my tenure in Student Congress I have made this belief very well known and have persuaded several of my Christian colleagues to join me. Let me make this very simple and clear- Just because we dont believe in being homosexual does not mean it shouldnt be allowed.

Thats just a brief re-cap for ya! Check back in a couple days and I will be posting my endorsement for President- Ohio Senator and Ohio 16th Congressional Representative.

A broken political system

When we look at America today we see something very different then we would have seen 50 years ago. Just like everything else there is some good, and there is some bad. Looking at the way our American political system has progressed though is very, very pathetic.

In America today we have a slight issue. Our candidates for office, our elected officials and our alleged "leaders" are often identifying themselves as "Republicans" or "Democrats" before identifying themselves as "Americans." This country has taken a two party system and put it to the extreme. The hatred between both sides is dividing this country and if it doesnt stop very soon it will be the end of the U.S as we know it.

I took a break from journalism and "blogging" for well over a year now. My former blog www.politicsplace.org was my home for political posts for over 4 years. However due to a busy schedule, a sudden lack of journalistic interest, and some managetorial errors, I ceased posting. Looking back, that was probably a huge mistake, but since then I have been able to mature as an individual and as a writer.

Over the course of the past one year I have truly began to find myself politically. My morals are starting to form, my beliefs are becoming solid, and my passion to restore America is stronger then it ever has been. Many people were quick to judge me when I was younger, stating that I would be a "right wing extremist" and a "brainwashed conservative" but if those same people were to sit down and talk politics with me now, they might see a different person.

As a person I identify myself as a Republican, economically I am a a conservative, morally a conservative and socially a moderate. You may now be thinking to yourself "And he thinks he has changed??" My response is- I have, significantly actually. One of the biggest ways I have watched myself mature is through the idea of compromise. Just because I identify myself as a Republican, DOES NOT mean I am afraid to sit down and work together with a liberal or democrat to better my community. Just because I identify myself as a Republican DOES NOT mean I have a problem endorsing a democrat if he/she is the better candidate, or the Republican candidate is less then admirable [and when I release my endorsement list in mid-august you will see that]. Just because I identify myself as a Republican DOES NOT mean I am going to close my gates and not face the truth when I am in the wrong.

You know America is in some serious trouble right now. Our economy is in the tank, our education system is in need of an overhaul, the housing market is crashing, and many Americans have given up. But you know I think there is still hope out there. Light just may be at the end of this tunnel, and it is up to my generation to figure it out.

This past year I had a great honor of competing for my debate team serving as a Student Congressmen. As a Student Congressmen you do the exact same thing a Representative to the United States House would do on a regular day in chamber. Propose, sponsor, or negate legislation. Refer amendments to committee. Political bargains. Etc. Etc. But there is one very, very, very significant difference between the Ohio Student Congress and the U.S House of Reps.- We can sit down, be civilized and pass a bill TOGETHER, unlike our colleagues in Washington.

What does the future hold for our nation? I guess we will have to see and find out! Do I want to be one of the one's who shapes our history? YES! Will I be able to? Again we have to wait and see!

I hope this introductory post gave you a little bit of knowledge as to what this blog will be like. Typically I wont be bouncing around like I did in todays post. You can expect at least one post a week, but if I get fired up on something it could be several!

Thanks for reading,
